Confronting the Cultural Distortion Caused by Communism

A Memoir

June 4th: The Fire Seed of Memory

C62

The date of June 4th carries an indelible, bleeding wound that the passage of decades cannot heal. It marks the day when the Chinese Communist Party deployed tanks and an armored army against peaceful students demanding nothing more than basic anti-corruption measures and systemic political reform. In the years that followed, that blood pool transformed mainland China, cementing a predatory development model built on red crony capitalism, systemic exploitation, and moral degradation. Yet, as we observe the anniversary of the June 4th Massacre today, the battlefield has fundamentally shifted. The tragedy is no longer confined to historical memory or geographical borders; it has evolved into a global war over human consciousness, language, and the survival of civilization itself.

For over three decades, the ultimate fortress of resistance against historical erasure was Hong Kong’s Victoria Park. It stood as the only place on Chinese soil where tens of thousands of citizens could gather freely, raising a sea of candlelights to illuminate the dark crimes of the regime. However, following the imposition of the National Security Law and the systematic crushing of local autonomy, the annual vigil has been permanently silenced, its linguistic and cultural memory deliberately excised by state censors who now enforce an artificial quietude in Victoria Park. This enforced amnesia is a direct continuation of the regime’s core strategy: to control the narrative, to dictate language, and to ultimately possess the thought and behavior of the populace.

This systematic erasure is the ultimate expression of “cultural genocide”—the deliberate introduction of an entropic “cultural virus” designed to erode moral law, individual self-discipline, and collective memory. When a totalitarian regime forces a society into silence, it triggers a form of cultural autophagy, where a nation is manipulated into devouring its own heritage, its own truth, and its own soul. The tragedy of modern mainland China is that the fear and indifferences instilled by decades of political campaigns have turned surviving victims into numb accomplices, rendering an entire society blind to its own spiritual enslavement.

But the fire seed of memory cannot be entirely extinguished by autocratic decrees. While Victoria Park has been forced into silence, the moral and spiritual core of classical Chinese civilization remains fiercely alive in the Republic of China (ROC) in Taiwan. Today, Taiwan stands as a powerful, luminous counterpoint to the PRC’s tyranny. It has broken through decades of international isolation and systematic abandonment by Western policymakers to build the only true, thriving constitutional democracy in the Chinese-speaking world. In Taipei and across global capitals—from Washington D.C. to London—the candlelight of the June 4th vigil has found new havens. These commemorative activities are no longer merely acts of mourning; they are proactive standoffs against an aggressive, contemporary barbarism that threatens all of humanity.

As a geoscientist, I have spent a professional career utilizing classical thermodynamics as a precise analytical chisel to chip away impossibilities and map the natural environment. When we turn that same objective gaze toward human society, we find that living civilizations require the intake of “negative entropy”—faith, reason, and moral integrity—to resist the universal drift toward chaotic breakdown. What we are witnessing today in the United States and Western Europe is a profound, terrifying sense of déjà vu. The very same cultural virus that completed its entropic destruction in mainland China over the last century is now accelerating through the elite institutions of the West.

Under the seductive guise of “social justice,” “identity politics,” and “wokeism,” radical-left elitists are employing the exact behavior patterns of Mao’s earliest Red Guards. They embrace a “cancel culture” that mirrors the “Eliminating of the Four Olds” campaign; they promote divisive racial variants of classic Marxism’s class struggle theory; and they orchestrate a tyranny of language chaos designed to paralyze independent logic and common sense. Even science itself has been hijacked to manufacture social chaos, weaponizing narratives like the “climate emergency” to pass self-harming policies that systematically strip away energy independence and weaken the foundational framework of the free world.

These self-important Western elitists are the ultimate “viral envelopes” for contemporary evil. Paralyzed by historical ignorance and blinded by commercial greed, they actively appease an international criminal organization that routinely engages in organ harvesting, minority genocide, and cross-border espionage. They operate as the transmitting rubber tubes in a transfusion that drains the vitality of free societies to feed a monstrous, blood-sucking totalitarian leech.

The lesson of June 4th is that freedom is an inherently fragile ecosystem, one that cannot endure without a bedrock of uncompromised moral discipline and transcendent faith. As Alexis de Tocqueville famously observed, liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith. To defeat this encroaching global darkness, we must move past the paralyzing trap of habitual partisanship and commercial narratives. We must look at reality through an intimate, personal lens grounded in rigorous common sense.

The global commemoration of the June 4th Massacre must become an urgent call to action—a strategic awakening for a sleeping West. True resistance requires us to directly confront contemporary evil without negotiation or concession. We must actively support the deep integration of traditional Christian values with the timeless, highly stable virtues of classical Eastern civilization preserved by the ROC. Only by doing so can we fortify our societal immunity, rebuild a just international order, and ensure that the beacon of human freedom continues to shed its dazzling light across a waiting and hopeful world.

May God bless the memory of the fallen, and may God protect human civilization from the entropic shadow of tyranny.
