This Chinese idiom vividly describes a crucial pattern in creating and strengthening tyranny. For about a century, the CCP has used it skillfully and has benefited a lot. A new era of ‘Refer to the Deer as a Horse’ has quietly been arriving in the United States.
The ancient overbearing pattern and its current variants
Zhao Gao, the prime minister of the Qin Dynasty thousands of years ago in China, wanted to usurp the power of the Dynasty. To make sure that the cabinet ministers would absolutely obey to him, he set a trap for testing. One day he brought a deer to the second king of the Qin Dynasty and said, “This is a horse.” The king said, “You’re wrong, my prime minister. This is surely a deer.” Zhao asked with a smile the cabinet members around the king and got different answers. He later persecuted or killed those who told the truth. From then on, members of the cabinet became puppets or minions manipulated by Zhao, and the king was also afraid of him……
The modern communism variants of this overbearing pattern have become even more arrogant. In current China- variant, the CCP has always been correct. The reason is that the CCP said that the CCP is “great, glorious and correct” although it always refers to the deer as the horse. This pattern of bullying became dominate after the CCP armed seized the power completely. 1949 was the turning point.
In current America- variant, the radical leftists have always been correct. The reason is that radical leftists said that what they said is politically correct, although they always refer to the deer as the horse. They said so aggressively even though their political correctness violates the U. S. Constitution and the common sense of civilization. This pattern of bullying became dominate when the radical leftists have not completely seized power yet. It has no turning point and happens gradually like to boil frogs starting from warm water.
Some victims out of China- variant fled into America- variant, issued the warning, but got no reaction. Why? Is the water not too hot yet? Communism has been dominating the world and now getting into its overbearing pattern. Anything else we can do?
My dilemma and a solution from my readers
A celebrity among my alumni suggested me a few months ago, breaking the manuscripts into two: a memoir and a book on politics. He even titled the memoir as: “Jilong Rao: My life, from Communist China to Yale.” This is indeed a perfect script that a man escaped from hell to heaven. But it could not motivate me at all for writing any of such books, if so. In the actual world, what replaces excitement and pride is the deep concern about the crisis of the Freedom Beacon and the shame of the ivy league. The book is nothing but a viable solution when no way out after hitting walls everywhere for over 30 years.
His comment has also exposed the dilemma and the spiritual tortures on me. Yes, in this actual world, I must write because the values inherited from the founding fathers have damaged. I must write no matter how many obstacles and how much humiliation I might have to face. However, who wants to read the book? Who would take it seriously? How can I do it for the readers with English as the native language? With these questions, I have been searching for commentaries from different angles. Most of my young friends came from my former students and my kids’ school mates. At least 50 of them who left China and received a doctoral education in North America about 30-plus years ago. They are now working as high-level professionals or still in pure academic fields with at least two members of the National Academy of Sciences among them. There were seminars based on our own expertise, and sometimes we talked about politics. We were always straightforward about whatever topics we discussed, which is a big help to me. They are the earliest readership of my manuscript. Nowadays, the number of online readers far more exceeds their number, but they are always my helpful friends.
Enhancing communication and interaction with readers should be an effective way to get out of my dilemma.
Anatomy of the overbearing pattern
Given the close relationship and outspoken comments, I have been keeping in touch with my earliest readers. Last week, they sent me a link on a Time Magazine article titled The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign That Saved the 2020 Election. Three of them had an online gathering with me yesterday to exchange views on the topic.
- Charles: The language that Time Magazine has allowed the article to use is interesting. The author like the word cabal and praised the electoral cabal with passion. She thinks she is chic.
- Susan: Not just her. These people who manipulated the election were even more proud of their cabal. She wrote about them vividly: “The participants want the secret history of the 2020 election told, even though it sounds like a paranoid fever dream … And they believe the public needs to understand the system’s fragility in order to ensure that democracy in America endures.”
She even wrote: “They were not rigging the election; they were fortifying it.” Really shameless. Obviously, this group of people who rigged and stolen the election is very self-confident. They believed that even refers to the deer as the horse, ordinary people would not dare to resist and had to obey them. They even have methods punishing the people who do not obey.
- Michael: They are doing so deliberately and are really saying: “I am a rogue. Who am I afraid of?”
- Charles: There are still people don’t buy it. Coincidentally, it was just one day later after the article, my-pillow man published a documentary titled Absolute Proof. Its subtitle was Exposing Election Fraud and the Theft of America by Enemies Foreign and Domestic.
- Susan: I watched it immediately. It is breaking down the vast amount of evidence, State by State, that proves beyond any doubt that Donald Trump won the 2020 election by a landslide. A magnificent film.
This film provides powerful evidence showing that Communist China played a major role in tampering with electronic vote counting. Facing this obvious foreign enemy invasion, the radical leftists are still keen on internal fighting. Even worse, they are frequently using ‘refer to the deer as the horse’ to defile public opinion.
- Susan: This is their routine. Here is a similar story in a fiery exchange over the election between an ABC news anchor and Sen. Rand Paul weeks ago. The anchor even started: “A threshold question for you, this election was not stolen, do you accept that fact?” The senator revealed many facts about the fraud and then advised the anchor as a journalist to listen to different opinions on both sides. But the anchor didn’t listen at all, but arrogantly repeated the same provocative question.
- Charles: This is also a typical ‘refers to the deer as the horse’. Too arrogant!
- Susan: Sen. Paul fought back with this: you’re not so much a journalist as a fool. He was angry, finally.
- Charles: He was still being too polite.
- Michael: Decent people should have a better way to deal with such hooligans. These hooligans are continually helping the ecstatic CCP via impeaching Trump. Among the house impeachment managers, there is a suspect who has record colluding with Chinese spy. Most of their accusations for the impeachment are typical ‘referring to a deer as a horse.’ When our country faces communist attacks, these hypocrites are really disgusting.
The greatest skill of these hypocrites is to get votes for themselves. They are now incredibly powerful, but only make up a very tiny number of the population. I am still convinced that those sincere followers of socialism are reasonable and kind people. Hopefully, the dramatic changes in these months would make many of them wake up.
……
I hope that the format of “bullet plus first name” will be convenient to you and that more online readers will join the interaction of ideas. Thank you very much for your reading and for your further help.
